Economic Development
MPRA’s goal is to grow an Aboriginal-owned economic base through Aboriginal-owned business start-ups and acquisitions, and through expanding Aboriginal workforce participation and employment as joint pathways to financial independence. Our objectives are to:
- Pursue a progressive programme of sustainable business creation and acquisition. This may involve looking to the timely acquisition of established businesses, and expanding existing Aboriginal enterprise ventures to sustain local economies and secure the long-term future of communities.
- Increase the level and range of professional and vocational skills across the region. This involves matching education and training to areas of skill deficit and industry requirements, and addressing the lack of opportunity for young people to gain work experience.
- Raise workforce participation and employment through relevant labour market strategies for those who face barriers due to lack of opportunity in the mainstream economy, inadequate skills and health-related barriers.
